SIFO occurs when there is an overgrowth of yeast in the small intestine and shares many of the same symptoms of SIBO. From abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and gas all the way to skin irritations and more. Like most chronic digestive issues, diet, supplementation and nutrition are a major factors in improvement but you need to get it right.
Fungal overgrowth or infection symptoms are often general or vague, and difficult to associate with a diagnosis or disease state, and, therefore, may be overlooked during clinical assessments.
Toxins released by fungi can cause multiple systemic symptoms, including but not limited to:
- Gastrointestinal: bloating, constipation, gas, heartburn, inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome, bad breath (halitosis), oral thrush
- Skin: acne, dandruff, anal itching, dermatitis, nail fungus, discolored nails, hives
- Neurological: poor memory, tingling, anxiety, fatigue, mood swings, brain fog
- Endocrine: adrenal and thyroid malfunction, impotence, sex hormone imbalances
