I can hear you already, DON’T MESS WITH MY COFFEE WOMAN! I’m not I promise, I love a good bulletproof coffee in the morning trust me. I’m an even bigger fan of bombproof matcha. Yup, that’s a thing.

Matcha is a special type of powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan (in most cases). The green tea leaves are shaded from the sun for the last few weeks of their growth, increasing the chlorophyll content and creating a gorgeous green color. Then, the leaves are carefully ground with stone grinding wheels to produce a fine powder.

Matcha is a huge staple in my practice due to the fact that it outperforms coffee like crazy. It’s jacked with antioxidants including catechins which have huge anti cancer properties. It also contains L-Theanine, an amino acid which helps the body process caffeine in a way that helps you sustain the energy boost without the jitters or the crash.

I like to use DoMatcha, the organic first harvest is the best, it has way more potency than others on the market and you only need a little.

1 tsp of this powdered matcha is plenty

1 tbsp of coconut oil

1 tbsp grass fed butter or ghee

1 cup water heated or coconut milk for that extra oomph

I like to add a tiny bit of himalayan salt for health properties and adrenal support.

Combine all ingredients in a blender until frothy.

Why do I add coconut oil and not just butter or ghee?

Medium chain fatty acids (MCT) such as coconut oil are digested easily and sent directly to your liver. They are metabolised and used for fuel not for fat.Seeing as coconut oil also has antioxidant properties which help with inflammatory issues such as gut issues.

Why not just use coconut oil then, why add butter?

Grass fed butter specifically (conventional butter is not the same) has high amounts of CLA fatty acids which when used in conjunction with MCT oil has the ability to curb hunger for longer. It tends to keep you feeling satiated longer. Yes this does seem high on the calorie count, but not all calories are created equal so stop counting them.

I’m not saying ditch the bulletproof coffee, I still love a good cup of jo’ in the AM. I just happen to like the added health bonus of matcha, which if you are suffering severe adrenal issues is much healthier than having a coffee, until you manage your symptoms.
